Introduction of Driverless Trains - Test Train Unit - London Underground

Our Ref: LUL/14/10

23nd November 2012

TO ALL RMT TEST TRAIN OPERATORS

Dear Colleagues,

INTRODUCTION OF DRIVERLESS TRAINS – TEST TRAIN UNIT- LONDON UNDERGROUND

I write to advise you that following the recent ballot in favour of taking industrial action over London Underground’s plans to test driverless trains, the General Grades Committee has decided the call the following industrial action:-

  • With effect from 00:01 hours on Saturday 1st December 2012 until further notice, Test Train Operator members are instructed to refuse to test trains being prepared for driverless operation.

Your union’s position is very clear; we believe every train must have a driver to ensure the safe and effective running of the Underground. We firmly believe that plans to scrap drivers or reduce their driving duties are risking safety, services and jobs, and are motivated by saving money and undermining trade unionism.

Therefore I urge members to fully support this action, to show management that we will not accept any plans they have to prepare for the introduction of driverless trains.

SUPPORT THE ACTION

SUPPORT YOUR UNION

Yours Sincerely,

Bob Crow

General Secretary
