ABSENCE MANAGEMENT PROCEDURE – STENA

Our Ref SH/5/9

4th October 2016

TO ALL STENA LINE PTE MEMBERS

Dear Colleagues

ABSENCE MANAGEMENT PROCEDURE – STENA

I write to advise Stena members that we have raised our considerable dissatisfaction with management’s decision to introduce, without consultation with RMT, a new absence management procedure on 20th June. We have made it abundantly clear that if they should take such similar action in the future to introduce or alter policies without constructive discussions with RMT as the recognised union, then a dispute will exist between us.

Following a meeting attended by the National Secretary on 6th September the company has indicated that it is willing to engage in discussions with a view to improving the procedure. Ahead of these discussions, the NEC has instructed that a comprehensive submission is to be prepared based on previous RMT negotiations concerning Absence Management Procedures. In particular this will consider the application of the Bradford Index/Factor in such procedures which will then be used as the basis for discussions with the company.

In the meantime I am asking for members to be vigilant and immediately report any problems you experience with the new Absence Management Process to your local representative and Regional Organiser.

As discussions progress I will keep members informed of developments.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
