DISMISSAL FROM DUTY, N. HUTCHINGS – SOUTHEASTERN

Our Ref: BR2/14/2

7th September 2018

Dear Colleague,

DISMISSAL FROM DUTY, N. HUTCHINGS – SOUTHEASTERN

I am writing in relation to the above matter and further to my previous correspondence. As you are aware our long serving member, Brother Norman Hutchings, was unfairly dismissed for carrying out his duties and for putting his colleagues and passengers safety first, by removing an unruly passenger.

Normans appeal hearing has now taken place and after strong representation I am pleased to inform you that our Brother has been fully reinstated to his substantive role. I would like to thank you and your colleagues for your tremendous support, hard work and commitment during this dispute. There is no doubt that the clear solidarity shown by you and your colleagues has enabled us to ensure that this overly harsh dismissal has been reversed.

The National Executive committee has recently considered this matter and has instructed me to cancel the current ballot for industrial action and inform the company accordingly. However, I will be informing the company that the union has serious concerns over their ‘Hands off’ Policy. Our representatives will be meeting the company to discuss the issues with the policy and how these can be addressed. The NEC has also recommended that a working party comprised of our Industrial and Health & Safety representatives is set-up to look into the policy as soon as possible.

Once again, I would like to congratulate you all on this magnificent victory and I will write to you all again once I have received further information on the issues outlined above.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash

General Secretary
