DISMISSAL FROM DUTY, N. HUTCHINGS – SOUTHEASTERN

Our Ref: BR2/4/12

21st August 2018

Dear Colleague

DISMISSAL FROM DUTY, N. HUTCHINGS – SOUTHEASTERN

Further to my letter dated the 6th August 2018 in relation to the suspension of our long serving member, Brother Norman Hutchings and where I informed you that Brother Hutchings Hearing was due to take place on Wednesday 8th August 2018. I can now advise you that the Hearing has been held and Brother Hutchings has been dismissed from the company. Therefore, the union’s National Executive Committee has taken the decision to rename the file ‘Dismissal from Duty, N. Hutchings – Southeastern.’

Brother Hutchings is a long serving, loyal member of staff who has been dismissed from his Supervisor role by management for removing an unruly, abusive and ticketless passenger from the station. It is the view of this Union that the harsh decision taken by Southeastern to dismiss Brother Hutchings highlights managements total lack of duty of care towards their own employees.

The Executive Committee is appalled that Southeastern has dismissed our long standing member and has taken the decision to conduct a ballot for strike action of all Southeastern members located at Dover Priory. Therefore, I have notified the company that a dispute situation now exists between our two organisations and will remain so until Brother Hutchings is reinstated.

Ballot papers will be sent to your home address on Tuesday 28th August 2018. If you have not received your voting paper by Tuesday 4th September 2018 please contact the RMT Helpline on 0800 376 3706 and request a ballot paper. Alternatively, you may wish to contact the RMT Head Office on 0207 387 4771 and ask for the Industrial Relations department where a replacement ballot paper will be sent to your home address.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR VOTE – VOTE YES FOR STRIKE ACTION
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU RETURN YOUR VOTING PAPER BY NO LATER
THAN TUESDAY 11TH SEPTEMBER 2018

Best wishes.
