DISMISSAL, G. CHARLTON, CONDUCTOR – ARRIVA TRAINS WALES
I write with regards to the above matter and further to a resolution from our Cambrian Branch which details Arriva Trains Wales decision to dismiss our Colleague, Brother Gareth Charlton, from the company’s employment.
It is the view of this Union that the decision to dismiss Brother Charlton represents a clear attack on frontline staff that deal with threatening, violent and abusive behaviour on a daily basis. This situation only highlights the company’s clear disregard and lack of understanding the affect that this behaviour has on the morale and mental health of front line staff. Gareth has clearly been subject to an abuse of the disciplinary procedures with management ignoring mitigating circumstances and good conduct records. Management have reached their conclusion to dismiss our Brother by using poor quality technology, which only reveals a small amount of information and does not reflect a true record of any incident. This total lack of disregard is a huge concern for all our members and puts you and your colleagues at risk of being subject to an overzealous manager and being victim to Arriva Trains Wales abuse of the disciplinary procedures.
This matter was considered as an emergency item at the Unions Annual General Meeting. Therefore, I have been instructed to inform the company that the union is now in dispute with the company. Additionally, the company have been informed that should Gareth not be fully reinstated to his substantive role then I shall be balloting you and your colleagues for industrial action and a dispute situation will exist until our brother is fully reinstated.
Therefore, to ensure a swift ballot, should the need for one arise, membership checks are currently underway. I urge you all to ensure your details are correct.
