HIGHER GRADE DUTY (Grade 3 to Grade 2) – STENA LINE

Our Ref: SH/6/1

4th October 2016

Dear Colleagues,

HIGHER GRADE DUTY (Grade 3 to Grade 2) – STENA LINE

Members will be aware from my previous correspondence dated 6th September 2016 that there has been an on-going issue where Stena Line is still not paying additional monies for individuals who step up from Grade 3 to Grade 2. The acceptance of the G3 into the system was based on a limited number for each watch/ship. With the G3 Grade being much lower rate of pay, it was agreed there would be no cash handling involved in this role. In the event an individual stepped up from G3 to G2, which would involve cash handling, members would be paid the appropriate rate of pay.

Despite the Union raising this subject both locally and nationally with the company, it appears that management are still not paying the rate. I therefore urge everyone who finds themselves in this position to raise a grievance. The RMT has created the enclosed pro-forma grievance letter to assist members with this process. This should be completed and returned to the Ship’s Master. Additionally members should send a copy of their grievance letter to the NW Regional Office who will then make the necessary arrangements for an unlawful deduction of earnings claim.

Please do not hesitate to contact the helpline if you need any further assistance.

The address of the NW Regional Office is as follows:-

RMT North West & North Wales Region
2 Temple Square
Temple Lane
Liverpool
L2 5BB

Yours sincerely
