ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO – SOUTHERN (GTR)

Our Ref: BR2/0146

23rd August 2016

Dear Colleague,

ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO – SOUTHERN (GTR)

I write further to my correspondence dated 18th August 2016, in which I advised you that talks had broken down at ACAS after the company rejected out of hand our reasonable and practical proposals.

As you are aware the National Executive Committee instructed me to arrange a meeting of our GTR Conductor Company Council and Local Reps with the National Officers and the National Executive Committee to discuss the proposals and to find a solution to resolve this dispute. However, the company have refused to release our representatives blatantly obstructing the democratic process of this union. We cannot tolerate this vindictive approach the company have taken to prevent our reps and NEC meeting to find a resolution to this dispute.

As a result of the company’s obvious disregard for the safety and security of passengers, staff and their deliberate attempt to prevent this unions democratic process, The National Executive Committee has had no alternative but to declare the following action:

• Not to book on for any shifts between 0001 on Wednesday 7th September 2016 and 2359 hours on Thursday 8th September 2016.

I would like to once again congratulate you and your colleagues for your continued determination to oppose GTR’s plans to extend DOO, removal of the safety role of the conductor and the introduction of the non-safety critical OBS role. I urge you all to continue to stand strong and united and show southern the true resolve of our determination.

STAY UNITED STAND FIRM NO TO DOO

Yours sincerely
