ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO – SOUTHERN (GTR)

TO ALL SOUTHERN CONDUCTOR AND CONDUCTOR INSTRUCTOR MEMBERS

NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE CALLS FURTHER 5 DAYS STRIKE ACTION

Dear Colleague,

ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO – SOUTHERN (GTR)

With reference to the above the National Executive Committee has again considered this matter and has instructed members to take strike action by not booking on for any shifts that commence between the hours of

00.01 Monday 8th August and 23.59 on Friday 12th August 2016

The National Executive Committee believes the action is necessary because:-

•    GTR have stated their intention to introduce full DOO(P) working on the Brighton mainline by 21st August, and to extend DOO(P) to Horsham around that date, despite the opposition of passengers and members  to extending DOO.

•    GTR have ignored our proposals for a three month suspension of our action and their plans, to enable more talks to take place.

•    GTR’s bad faith in telling Conductors that a meeting with RMT was to be held on Wednesday 27th August, but not arranging that meeting

•    The Transport and Rail Ministers have not replied to our request for a meeting over this issue.

The National Executive Committee has also considered resolutions from our Sussex Coast Branch on the Movement of RPOs to OBS Roles, Accusations by GTR regarding Conductors sickness absences and future strike dateS and I will write to you further on these shortly.

The National Executive Committee has urged members to stay united in your resolve to defend the safety role of the Conductor.

It has also been agreed to pay £200 to all members who take strike action on the dates listed above.

DEFEND THE SAFETY ROLE OF THE GUARD

SUPPORT THE STRIKE

Yours sincerely,
