ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO – ARRIVA RAIL NORTH

Dear colleague

ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO – ARRIVA RAIL NORTH

I have no doubt that you and your colleagues will once again show that you are all committed to defending the role of the Guard end ensuring there is no extension of DOO on the ARN network. The solidarity you have shown to one another and the support for your union’s campaign has been inspirational not only to your colleagues in the RMT but to the whole of the trade union movement.

Management, of course, will always try to weaken the solidarity of you and your colleagues and they tried to do this earlier this week when issuing a statement via regional news that a “breakthrough” had been made in this dispute. This “breakthrough” which they alluded to was the same “breakthrough” which your union has been waiting on for some weeks – a commitment to attend ACAS talks. Just about every letter which I have sent to ARN during this dispute states a desire for talks and that your union would make itself available at any time to attend such talks.

Therefore, don’t be misled by such statements from ARN management, they are simply an attempt to confuse people about the realities of the dispute process, weaken our members’ resolve and mislead the public about the company’s commitment to attend meaningful talks to resolve this long-standing dispute.

But each time management try to do this, they fail as people fully understand what is going on in this dispute, our members have remained 100% loyal throughout the strike action and public support for your union’s cause has never been higher.

I once again thank you for showing such determination throughout this dispute to achieve our aims, which is to ensure that a second safety-critical member of staff remains on all ARN services.

SUPPORT YOUR UNION – SUPPORT THE ACTION

Yours sincerely

General Secretary
