Temporary Closure of Derby Station, Pay of Staff, Service Staff – Cross Country Trains

Our Ref: BR2/1/4

14th August 2018

Dear Colleague,

Temporary Closure of Derby Station, Pay of Staff, Service Staff – Cross Country Trains

As you are aware, an agreement was made at the Drivers Company Council that train drivers at Cross Country Trains will be getting guaranteed rest day working arrangements and payments when not required during the period of the Derby blockade until September 2018.

Your union has made a similar claim for you and your colleague but, despite a lengthy meeting, management have failed to address our members’ concerns.

It is absolutely outrageous for this company to give preferential treatment to one grade of employees over another. For that reason, your representatives have recommended to your National Executive Committee that it declares a dispute with the company and that, if no equitable offer is made for you and your colleagues, then a ballot for industrial action will commence. Your NEC has endorsed that recommendation.

There must be no detrimental treatment of you and your colleagues in relation to working arrangements and payments compared to what other grades receive. RMT members should not be seen as second class employees at Cross Country Trains and it is essential that the company treats you with respect and fairness.

Therefore, to ensure a swift ballot, membership checks are currently underway. I urge you all to ensure your membership details are correct in preparation for any ballot. If your job title, address or workplace has recently changed, then please contact the RMT Freephone Helpline number on 0800 376 3706, the RMT switchboard on 0207 387 4771 or e-mail info@rmt.org.uk. Additionally, if you know a colleague who has moved or changed jobs inform them to contact one of the above numbers where we will be able to amend their details and ensure a successful ballot.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
