Dear colleague
RATES OF PAY & CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 2022 – BALFOUR BEATTY RAIL PLANT
You and your colleagues at Balfour Beatty Rail Plant recently took part in a referendum over the pay offer tabled by management. To remind you, the offer from the company was as follows:
• 4% increase on basic rates applicable from 1st January 2022
• A minimum £750 increase to those earning less than £25,000 per annum
As you will recall, the recommendation from your union’s National Executive Committee was to reject this offer based on the views of your representatives that it did not meet our members’ aspirations at a time of a massive rise in inflation and the cost of living crisis you are facing.
The result of the referendum was as follows:
Are you prepared to accept the offer?
Voting YES to accept 6
Voting NO to reject 129
This represents a very clear rejection of the offer and was considered by your NEC, which noted this overwhelming vote. The NEC also instructed me to inform the company that a dispute situation now exists and that a further meeting between our organisations should now take place.
I have written to the company advising them of a dispute and now await to hear of any further developments. I will write to you again when details emerge from the talks process.
Yours sincerely
Michael Lynch
General Secretary
