Dear RMT Member,

RATES OF PAY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 2023 – HITACHI RAIL (LNER EAST COAST & LONDON NORTH POLE)

Further to my previous correspondence, the referendum on the company’s pay offer has concluded and the result is as follows:

Do you accept the company’s offer?

Total votes cast                      475

Number voting YES                 313

Number voting NO                  162

Your union’s National Executive Committee has considered this result and noted that you and your colleagues have voted to accept the company’s revised offer.

For your ease of reference, pay award is as follows:

For Legacy sites (CRAIGENTINNY and BOUNDS GREEN):

  • Year 1 - 6% on basic pay plus any allowances that are based on a percentage of salary (e.g.  Shift Allowance) plus a £1,000 Lump Sum payment plus an additional day annual leave effective from 01 April 2023 for FY 23/24. Please note – the offer of an extra day for annual leave applies only to the year 23/24 and does not increase overall annual leave entitlements.

The offer also includes the removal of the Attendance Allowance restriction which means future payments will be based on a calculation of 100% as opposed to the current rate of 93%. This will be applied from 01 April 2024.

  • Year 2 – 5.2% on basic plus any allowances that are based on a percentage of salary (e.g.  Shift Allowance) plus a £250 Lump Sum payment plus a reduction of 100 reserve hours plus an additional day annual leave effective from 01 April 2024 for FY 24/25. Please note – the offer of an extra day for annual leave applies only to the year 24/25 and does not increase overall annual leave entitlements.

  • Year 3 – RPI % increase on basic plus any allowances that are based on a percentage of salary (e.g.  Shift Allowance) equivalent to the published December 2024 RPI figure (subject to a minimum payment of 2% and a maximum cap of 6%) plus a £250 Lump Sum payment plus a further reduction of 100 reserve hours effective from 01 April 2025 covering FY 25/26.

For Hitachi Sites (DONCASTER and LONDON NORTH POLE):

  • Year 1 - 6% on basic pay plus any allowances that are based on a percentage of salary (e.g.  Shift Allowance) effective from 01 April 2023 plus a £1,500 Lump Sum payment plus an additional day annual leave effective from 01 April 2023 for FY 23/24. Please note – the offer of an extra day for annual leave applies only to the year 23/24 and does not increase overall annual leave entitlements.

  • Year 2 – 5.2% on basic plus any allowances that are based on a percentage of salary (e.g.  Shift Allowance) plus a £250 Lump Sum payment plus an additional day annual leave effective from 01 April 2024 for FY 24/25. Please note – the offer of an extra day for annual leave applies only to the year 24/25 and does not increase overall annual leave entitlements.

  • Year 3 – RPI % increase on basic plus any allowances that are based on a percentage of salary (e.g.  Shift Allowance) equivalent to the published December 2024 RPI figure (subject to a minimum payment of 2% and a maximum cap of 6%) plus a £250 Lump Sum payment plus an additional day annual leave effective from 01 April 2025 for FY 25/26. Please note – the offer of an extra day for annual leave applies only to the year 25/26 and does not increase overall annual leave entitlements.

Noting the result, the union's National Executive Committee has instructed me to inform the company of our acceptance. This therefore resolves pay negotiations for 2023 and I have written to the company to request that they implement the new pay rates as soon as possible, including back pay.

I trust this keeps you fully advised on the matter.

Yours sincerely,

Michael Lynch

General Secretary
