Role of the Guard & Extension of DOO – Arriva Rail North
I am writing to advise that the referendum of you and your colleagues has now closed and the result is as follows:-
“Question: Do you wish for talks to continue?
Papers Returned: 644
Voting YES: 609
Voting NO: 35
The National Executive Committee has considered this matter and has acknowledged that the overwhelming result in favour of talks. This result provides the union and our negotiators with a clear mandate to carry on talks with the company and to ensure a safety critical guard remains on the Arriva Rail North network. The NEC has also considered the views of our Employee Council representatives who visited every depot and received feedback, in principle, on the items listed by the company for talks.
Therefore, I will be immediately informing the company that we wish to continue the talks without delay. I will also be making the point that these meetings should be attended by the full employee council and for them to be afforded full time release to ensure this process is concluded in a timely manner.
I trust this keeps you fully advised and I will continue to keep you updated on any further developments when they arise.
