Ivor Riddell

Ivor Riddell Joined the rail industry as a Freight Guard at Strood Depot in 1979, moving to Victoria Guards Depot when the Strood closed in 1984. He left the industry in 1988 to go Bus Driving with London Transport, worked as Lorry Driver for many years and returned to the Railway (with CONNEX now Southeastern) in 2003.

Always a loyal trade unionist, Ivor said: "The Credit Union is a key service provided by the RMT for its members and gives a real alternative to Banks and Building Societies where the bottom line is making money, for shareholders who have no real loyalty to their customers. The CU however is run for the members by the members so we really are all in it together"

Currently Ivor is on secondment to RMT Learning where he is supporting Union Learning Reps, who provide lifelong learning opportunities for their colleagues helping them to improve their self confidence and life opportunites.

He also volunteers with the Kent Deaf Children's Society, The Sea Cadets and is currently Chairman of the Gillingham & Strood Branch of the RMT.
