Dear Colleague
ACTION AGAINST ASSAULTS CAMPAIGN
RMT’s Action Against Assaults Campaign was formally launched at the AGM (annual general meeting) in June 2025:
- with a briefing (including RMT member survey results) shared with all AGM delegates
- an associated press release which received good media coverage
- a speaker on Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) on public transport.
This launches a political and industrial campaign aimed at reducing the number of assaults on public transport, affecting both passengers and staff, while at the same time increasing the number of safety reps and supporting increased activity in this area by safety reps.
At a statutory meeting of your National Executive Committee on 3rd September 2025 they noted and adopted the following report from their Health and Safety subcommittee - from when it met to consider the matter of staff assaults
We note the report “Action Against Assaults, Campaign Update”: https://rmtunion.org/42IV3Sn - and we further note the suggested next actions to take place between now and the December 2025 Statutory meeting where a further report will be provided. We link this file to our main staff assaults campaign file.
I am acting in accordance with these instructions and will keep you advised of developments.
Yours sincerely,
Eddie Dempsey
