Dear Colleague

ASBESTOS SUPPORT GROUPS

Your Yorkshire and Lincolnshire Regional Council submitted the following resolution:

This Regional Council was visited by a representative from SARAG The Yorkshire and Lincolnshire asbestos support group. Such groups have provided invaluable resources and recourse for transport workers exposed to asbestos in the course of their working lives.

It is our belief that engagement with such groups nationwide, along with utilisation of our union’s existing asbestos register would be of great benefit to our membership.

This regional council calls upon our National Executive Committee to embark on a campaign of awareness for our members of SARAG and other similar local groups nationally, in conjunction with the already extant benefits available through our legal team and the wider union.

At its meeting on 2nd May 2024, your National Executive Committee noted and adopted the following report from its Health and Safety Sub-committee:

We note the resolution form the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire Regional Council, for which it is thanked.

The General Secretary is instructed to act in line with this resolution, and engage with the registered charity SARAG (the Sheffield and Rotherham Asbestos Group) and similar organisations throughout the UK via the Hazards Campaign.

All Branches and Regional Councils to be notified.

I am acting in line with these instructions.

Please bring this circular to the attention of all relevant members.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch

General Secretary
