Dear Colleague
AVANTI WEST COAST TICKET CHECKS/ REVENUE PROTECTION
A report was received from RMT’s Regional Organiser confirming that Avanti West Coast Train Managers are undertaking a resumption of Ticket Checks/Revenue Protection where possible and safe to do so. This was only following a full and complete review of the Formal Balanced Risk Assessment and the use of mitigations, followed by a weeklong trial on services out of Euston.
Prior to the FBRA being undertaken I have been assured that the advice and guidance contained within the RICF agreement (specifically relating to the three elements of social distancing and the use of mitigations to reduce any possible risk to as low as reasonably possible) was also sent out to the Company Council and Health and Safety representatives.
I have been advised that various discussions took place over the numerous mitigations together with the provision, replenishment, use and safe disposal of face coverings (masks and visors), vinyl disposable gloves, disposable sleevelettes, hand sanitiser, anti-bacterial cleaning wipes. The cleaning of TMs’ Ticketing machines and cleaning of the TM’s on board office, etc., was all addressed and agreed.
This subsequently led to the resumption of ticket checks being resumed primarily by using the laser scanner pens issued to TMs and RPOs.
Your NEC noted and adopted the following report of its Health and Safety Sub Committee at its meeting on 18th August 2020:
We note the Regional Organiser’s report and Avanti’s actions in mitigating the risks associated with resumption of Ticket Checks/Revenue Protection where possible and safe to do so. The General Secretary is instructed to write to the company noting that RMT is agreeable to the recommencing of Ticket Checks/Revenue Protection where possible and safe to do so on this basis.
Branches and Regional Councils to be advised.
Avanti members to be advised via email.
I am acting in accordance with these instructions and will keep you informed of developments.
Yours sincerely
Mick Cash
General Secretary
