AVANTI WEST COAST TRAIN MANAGERS’ COMPANY COUNCIL - TRAINING COMPETENCIES

 

Your National Executive Committee (NEC) met on 8^th August 2023 to discuss an update report from the Lead Officer relating to a recent meeting he had with the company to discuss their intention to cut coupling and shunting modules from Train Managers training. 

 

In relation to this your NEC made the following decision:

 

Further to our previous decision we note the report from our Lead Officer and welcome the decision of Avanti West Coast to reinstate the previous training and competencies for their train managers. 

 

The General Secretary is instructed to wrote to Avanti West Coast welcoming this development but request that they keep the Train Managers Company Council fully appraised on how the retraining and refresher training is going in terms of how many Train Managers are being trained and when it likely that all Train Managers will be fully competent in all aspect of the missed-out modules. Regular updates should be given to our Train Manager Company Council members on these developments. To congratulate the Avanti West Coast Managers Company Council for all their efforts, determination and vigilance regarding these issues and their defence of the safety and operational role of the Guard. 

 

Any further updates to be placed before this NEC. 

 

Finally, the GS is instructed to re-title this file: “Avanti West Coast Train Managers’ Company Council – Training Competencies”. 

 

Branches and Regional Councils to be advised.
