Dear Colleague,

BUS MATTERS – FIGHTING COVID-19 – HAVING CONFIDENCE IN CONTROL MEASURES, METHODOLOGY AND ENFORCEMENT

Further to Head Office Circular NP/429/21, dated 22nd November 2021, your National Executive Committee met on 3rd February 2022 to discuss a report from its Health and Safety Sub-committee relating to further correspondence received from the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) in respect of the CPT’s risk matrix.

The report adopted by the NEC is as follows:

The General Secretary is instructed to write to CPT (Confederation of Passenger Transport) to request that they make the following additions to their risk matrix for bus and coach drivers:

- Carry out CO2 monitoring where appropriate and share results with trade union health and safety representatives
- Ensure vehicles are fully aired and ventilated between use
- Replace all vehicle air circulation/ventilation and conditioning filters with upgraded HEPA filters.

The General Secretary to also ask of CPT that they provide the risk matrix that applies to shared communal staff areas in bus stations, such as canteens and staff room? and if so, can they share this with us?

Branches and Regional Councils to be advised accordingly.

I am acting in accordance with this instruction and will keep you advised of developments.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch
General Secretary
