Chilled Water, Security Issues and Air Quality (London Underground)

Our Ref: HSR/2/16
Head Office Circular: NP/118/17
24th July 2017

The Secretary
ALL BRANCHES
ALL REGIONAL COUNCILS

Dear Colleague

Chilled Water, Security Issues and Air Quality (London Underground)

Central Line East Branch have submitted a resolution to the National Executive Committee (NEC), identical resolutions have also been received from Finsbury Park and Neasden 1070 Branches.  The NEC have noted and adopted the following resolution:

We note the resolution from our Central Line East Branch regarding the breakdown in the reasonable treatment of our members in relation to palatable drinking water, the serious health & safety issue for staff and the travelling public regarding the matter of the air quality which exceeds the expert recognised safety limits, and the appalling disregard for the safety of staff and public in relation to London Undergrounds insistence on introducing a HOT procedure that completely breaks with established and current approaches to dealing with suspect packages.

We further note that these last two issues are all being driven purely by financial considerations in complete disregard for our members and public alike and do not even pass the thin considerations of ALARP

We further note that the Lead Officer and Senior H&S Reps are due a meeting this week with London Underground at Director level on the matters of chilled drinking water and air quality, and the London Mayor is being written to for an urgent meeting regarding the security situation.

Therefore, we instruct the General Secretary to place a report back before this NEC for Tuesday 25th July 2017.

All relevant Branches and the London Transport Regional Council to be advised.

I am acting in accordance with this instruction. Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of relevant members.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
