Dear Colleague,

CLAPHAM JUNCTION RAIL CRASH MEMORIAL EVENT

I write to notify you of the above memorial event, which commemorates the 35th anniversary of the Clapham Junction rail crash – and to encourage you to attend if you are able to do so.

This event is being organised by the local branch of our sister union, ASLEF. The memorial event will start at 8am on Tuesday 12thDecember at the memorial site for the crash, which is on Spencer Park, Battersea, London, SW11 1HS.

Wreaths will be laid by London Fire Brigade, British Transport Police, train companies, the local school whose pupils helped the injured on the day of the crash and by ASLEF branches.  Eddie Dempsey, Senior Assistant General Secretary will lay flowers on behalf of RMT.

There will be a short service by the railway chaplain and a minute’s silence at the time of the crash, 8.10am.

The Clapham Junction rail crash led to significant changes in the railway industry, including the Hidden Report, so it is right that we remember the 35 who lost their lives, as well as those who were injured, and all the families affected.

ASLEF have invited anyone who would like to attend to join them at the memorial site.

Yours sincerely,
