CRIME AND ASSAULT ON THE PORTSMOUTH TO GUILDFORD LINE, SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY (SWR)

 

Further to Head Office Circular NP/56/20, dated 13th March 2020, your NEC noted and approved the report of its Health and Safety Sub Committee at its meeting on 2nd September 2020:

 

We note the disturbing reports on this case provided by the Lead Officer and Guard’s Company Council and that the authorities have failed to resolve this issue. General Secretary is instructed to take up this matter with the company in line with the recommended course of action in the report namely:

 

  • Double staff all on-board personnel on trains on this route
  • Increase staffing levels at each station with no lone working
  • Look at ways of securing the GOP panels within the train
  • Remind all Guards how to de-activate the PA
