CRIMINAL INJURIES COMPENSATION SCHEME

On considering a report that, following the withdrawal of CICA payments to train drivers who had witnessed a fatality, our sister union – ASLEF instructed its members that train drivers should no longer ensure the track is clear following an incident or suspected incident involving trains striking individuals on the railway. The General Grades Committee have noted and adopted the following report of their Health and Safety Sub-committee:

The General Secretary is instructed to write to ASLEF to establish their current position. Further the General Secretary to raise this matter with the employers to establish what they are doing to protect our members from the trauma of having to deal with the aftermath of fatalities on the rail network.

Branches and Regional Councils to be informed.

I am acting in accordance with these instructions and will keep you informed of developments with this case.
