Dear Colleague

D&A TESTING FOLLOWING INCIDENTS, 12 HOUR RULE

Our Exeter Branch have raised concerns that staff are being held back from leaving work due to the failure of drug and alcohol testers  to arrive to conduct ‘for cause’ testing at the end of the shift. The Branch believe this is leading to unnecessary fatigue and could lead to other accidents. On considering the Branch’s resolution the National Executive Committee have noted and adopted the following report of their Health and Safety Sub-committee:

We note the concerns of the Branch and believe these issues are best dealt with in Chain of Care policies. General Secretary is instructed to draw up a model Chain of Care policy to be placed back in front of this NEC.

Branches and Regional Councils be advised.

I am acting in accordance with this instruction. Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of relevant members.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
