Dear Colleague

DIESEL FUMES FROM 159/158 UNITS AT WATERLOO STATION

Further to Head Office Circular NP/149 32/20, dated 19th June 2020, a reply has been received from Network Rail together with a DEEE report following independent sampling at Waterloo station.

RMT was provided with air quality data. At the time of sampling, there was no RMT representation present as this was an independent test and the sampling was taken away to analyse the results. Network Rail planned to review result with Union colleagues and South Western Railway, however this has been delayed due to COVID-19.

The company had a meeting with the Network Rail RMT Operations Health and Safety representative on 10th August to review the air quality report data and has offered to share the outputs of this meeting.

All results provided were below 50% of the exposure limit.

Your National Executive Committee, at its meeting on 29th October, noted and adopted the following report of its Health and Safety Sub-committee:

We note the letter from Network Rail. The General Secretary is instructed to write to the company requesting the sharing of the outputs of the meeting on 10th August with the RMT Regional Organiser, the Regional Organiser thereafter to provide a report to be placed before this NEC.

Branches and Regional Councils to be informed.

I am acting in accordance with these instructions and will keep you informed of developments.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
