DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

 

Your National Industrial Organising Conference of Station & Associated Grades 2022 carried the following resolution:

 

The recent pandemic has highlighted the spectre of domestic violence.

 

Whilst this Conference welcomes the extension of the free travel facility to those persons fleeing, generally station and retail staff are dealing with these situations with little or no training.

 

At some stations there is no designated place of safety which can leave vulnerable people relying on staff to protect them from potentially violent situations causing extreme distress for all.

 

This Conference asks the General Secretary to write to TFL and TOCs and demand designated places of safety are in every manned station and staff receive the necessary training and support to deal with these situations safely.

 

At its meeting on 23^rd August 2022, your National Executive Committee resolved as follows:

 

We note the resolution from our NIOC of Station and Associated Grades. This NEC agrees that there should be a duty of care to passengers. We instruct the General Secretary to raise this in line with the resolution.

I am acting in line with these instructions. Please bring the contents of this circular and the attached document to the attention of relevant members.
