Dear Colleague,
EAST MIDLANDS RAILWAY VIRTUAL GP SERVICE (HEALTH HERO)
I write to explain that your National Executive Committee met recently to consider a report from RMT Lead Officer for East Midlands Railway, regarding the Company’s use of virtual GP service (Health Hero).
I am concerned that the provision of this service will be used by East Midlands Railway to pressure members away from their family GP to a private profit-making enterprise - with medical appointments which are not in person.
RMT want members to be able to readily access GP services when they are ill, however East Midland’s engagement with this Health Hero is not a solution that we can recommend to our members. RMT supports the campaign SOS NHS and all efforts to resolve the crisis in the NHS and improve accessibility to health services. I have advised RMT East Midland’s members to be wary of this development and not allow the company to pressure them into engaging with this outfit – and to contact their RMT representative if they are directed by East Midlands from their choice of GP provision to Health Hero GP.
At its meeting on 4th April 2024 your National Executive Committee met to consider the report from the Lead Officer and adopted the following report:
We note the report on file from the Lead Officer.
We instruct the General Secretary to take up in line with the actions outlined in the correspondence from the Lead Officer – which is to write accordingly to all relevant members, and to notify all branches and regional councils.
I am acting in line with these instructions. Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of relevant members.
Yours sincerely
Michael Lynch
General Secretary
