Dear Colleague,
EMR – SEVERE OVERCROWDING DUE TO ENGINEERING WORKS ON LNER
On the weekend of 10th, 11th and 12th February, the East Coast was closed for engineering work.
Despite LNER running replacement ‘bus services, the travelling public still took the quickest route or did not relish travelling by ‘bus and decided to instead utilised the EMR service from London St Pancras.
This resulted in serious and severe overcrowding on the EMR services to and from St Pancras, resulting in station staff having to deal with queues and complaints from passengers - facing abuse in doing so - likewise complaints and aggression from passengers finding their seats unavailable.
Events such as this undoubtedly adversely affect the mental health of members.
I have written to Network Rail and the Rail Delivery Group requesting that a joint approach is taking regarding engineering work, in order to ensure that such events do not become the norm going forward.
I will keep members appraised of any developments.
Please bring this circular to the attention of all relevant members.
Yours sincerely
Michael Lynch
General Secretary
