Dear Colleague
EMR – HEALTH AND SAFETY CONCERNS
Further to Head Office Circular, NP/319/20, 23 December 2020, I recently received a further report from your Regional Organiser explaining that revenue duties have now been withdrawn for revenue protection grades and replaced with an alternative method of revenue protection. Revenue Protection Officers (RPO’s) will not be required to sell tickets on trains for the duration of the current national lockdown. RPO’s will continue to undertake their revenue protection duties at EMR stations but will direct customers to purchase tickets at the station ticket office. Your Regional Organiser continues to work to revise safe working methods along with your RMT safety representatives and will provide any relevant updates in due course.
The RMT National Executive Committee met on 21 January 2021 to consider this report and adopted the following resolution:
We note the report from the Regional Organiser.
The General Secretary is instructed to develop national policy for all Rail Revenue grades.
This does not impinge upon the decision of the NEC to cease the collection of revenue on-board trains by Guards or other grades.
Branches and Regional Councils to be advised.
I am acting in accordance with this instruction and will keep you advised of developments.
Yours sincerely
Mick Cash
General Secretary
