Dear Colleague

FREIGHTLINER – DRUG AND ALCOHOL SCREENING

Freightliner are proposing to extend the percentage of staff that are required to undertake random and unannounced drug and alcohol tests from 5% of the safety critical workforce to 25% of the entire workforce. On considering a report of our Business Council representatives the National Executive Committee have noted and adopted the following report of their Health and Safety Sub-committee:

We note the report and policy document on file. While this union fully supports D+A testing for safety critical workers we do not believe the proposed 25% level of testing is driven by any evidence of abuse by RMT members or other workers. We strongly believe our members understand their duty to report for work sober and in a drug free condition. We instruct the General Secretary to write to the company outlining that we do not accept the need for change.

Branches and Regional Councils be advised.

I am acting in accordance with this instruction. Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of relevant members.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
