Greater Anglia GP services (Health Hero)

Dear Colleague,

GREATER ANGLIA - GP SERVICES (HEALTH HERO)

I write to explain that your National Executive Committee met recently to consider a report from RMT Lead Officer for Greater Anglia, regarding the Company’s use of GP services provided by a company, Health Hero.

I am concerned that the provision of Health Hero GPs will be used by Greater Anglia to pressure members away from their family GP to a private profit-making enterprise - and to have medical appointments which are not in person.

RMT want members to be able to readily access GP services when they are ill, however Greater Anglia’s engagement with Health Hero is not a solution that we can support. RMT supports the campaign SOS NHS and is committed to supporting efforts to resolve the crisis in the NHS and improve accessibility to health services.

I have advised RMT Greater Anglia members to be wary of this development and not allow the company to pressure them into engaging with Health Hero – and to contact their RMT representative if they are directed by Greater Anglia from their choice of GP provision to Health Hero GP.

At its meeting on 12th March 2024 your National Executive Committee met to consider the report from the Lead Officer and adopted the following report:

We note the report on file from the Lead Officer.

We instruct the General Secretary to take up in line with the actions outlined in the letter from the Lead Officer - to write accordingly to all relevant members, and to notify all branches and regional councils.

I am acting in line with these instructions. Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of relevant members.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch, General Secretary
