HEATING AND EXTRACTION – CANTON MAINTENANCE DEPOT

 

I am writing to provide you with an update concerning the latest developments in relation to the above-mentioned matter.

 

Following strong representation from RMT representatives a meeting was held with the company on 15th August 2024 regarding the long outstanding heating and extraction upgrades at the depot.

 

At the meeting, the company confirmed that following escalation of this issue to Director level that Network Rail have confirmed that all outstanding work is due to be completed prior to the Summer 2025.  Further that a meeting would be held with the contractor assigned to complete the work on 28th August 2024 where full details of the schedule would be provided.  A commitment was given to invite RMT Health & Safety representatives to allow their input into the process.

 

In the interim mitigations have been put in place including ensuring fans within the depot are in a serviceable condition, that there is strict adherence to engine running/shut down policy and adequate depot air supplies and serviceable portable shore supplies helping to encourage limited engine running during maintenance.

 

I will of course provide you with a further update on any developments in relation to this matter.
