INJURIES FROM FALLING BETWEEN TRAIN AND PLATFORM


I received a report from your Lead Union Health and Safety Representative of a train conductor falling between the unit and the platform at Hednesford on a West Midlands Trains. The conductor advised that he/she misjudged the distance when stepping off the train. The conductor was then conveyed to in an ambulance with ligament and tendon injuries.

Your National Executive Committee, at its meeting on 25th May, noted and adopted the following report from its Health and Safety Sub-committee:

We note the report from the Lead Officer.

The General Secretary is instructed to write to Network Rail and ORR requesting information on industry-wide initiatives on train-platform interface safety issues.

Branches and Regional Councils to be advised.
