Dear Colleague

INTERNATIONAL WORKERS’ MEMORIAL DAY 2025

Every year on 28th April all over the world, trade unions, workers, and families hold remembrance events to mark International Workers’ Memorial Day because work continues to kill millions globally every year.

The Hazards Campaign brought Workers Memorial Day to the UK in 1990s with twin aims, to Remember the Dead and also to Fight for the Living. Workers across the UK are requested to join workers across the world to take action on 28thApril and to share your event on  https://www.tuc.org.uk/IWMD/international-workers-memorial-day-events.

Each year the day has a different theme, which this year is digitalisation and AI (Artificial Intelligence)

The day is also used as an opportunity to get reps active into workplaces to raise the profile of workplace health and safety.  Whatever you/your reps do for Workers’ Memorial Day, whether it is an inspection, holding a workplace health and safety meeting, safety workshop or briefing for your members - please let us know about this by emailing: healthandsafety@rmt.org.uk and we will send you a RMT safety rep’s clip board and HV vest.

Events already organised for International Workers’ Memorial Day 2025 include:

  1. TUC One day conference: Asbestos, Time to get rid of it.

TUC Congress House, London, WC1, Monday 28th April, 10am

The TUC is hosting a one-day conference on asbestos, which will centre on driving forward their campaign for removal.

The afternoon will also include workshops for health and safety reps, run by TUC tutors.

To register: see Eventbrite link as in the attached.

  1. Scotland-wide events

Unusually, and due to other calendar issues, this year STUC (Scottish Trade Union Congress) will start on 28th April. Given this Scotland- wide events are being organised. The full list of events which will take place between 25th and 28th April is still being collated by STUC.  But already organised are:
