Dear Colleague,

LACK OF SUPPORT WHEN ASSAULTED

Your 2022 Annual General Meeting adopted the following resolution:

That this RMT National Bus workers Industrial Conference calls upon the National Executive Committee to support and campaign with all companies that we have negotiating rights with over the lack of support and backing whenever a member is assaulted or verbally assaulted.

Very little, often no police support nor wellbeing is being given from companies as this can tarnish their image.

At its meeting on 1st September 2022, your National Executive Committee noted and adopted the following report from its Health and Safety Sub-committee:

We note the resolution carried unanimously by the 2022 AGM.

The General Secretary is instructed to write to all recognised companies seeking information on assault reporting and support for staff policies. The General Secretary is also instructed to launch a public and member-facing campaign on awareness, encouraging zero-tolerance and for the campaign to highlight particular problems experienced by our women members.

Further updates to be placed back before this NEC.

Relevant Branches and Regional Councils to be informed.

I am acting in line with these instructions. Please bring the contents of this circular and the attached document to the attention of relevant members.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch
General Secretary
