Dear Colleague,

LACK OF SUPPORT WHEN ASSAULTED

Referring to Circular NP/188/22 dated 2nd September 2022, at its meeting on 23rd May 2023, your National Executive Committee noted and adopted the following report from its Health and Safety Sub-committee:

We note the update from our Health and Safety Officer on the work done since September 2022 and that Regional Organisers have been asked to take up the issues highlighted in the survey with the bus companies they deal with.

The General Secretary is instructed to:

•           seek updated reports from Regional Organisers detailing what measures employers have in place to deal with assaults on staff

•           design leaflets to be sent to members outlining the results of the survey

•           write an open letter to the Secretary of State for Transport, Mark Harper, reminding him of his duty of care given that employers such as Go-Ahead, Stagecoach and First Bus are in receipt of public money

•           and, in conjunction with RMT’s Communications Department, invite three RMT members to participate in a video talking about their personal experiences. report the findings of this survey in the pages of RMT News.

I am acting in line with these instructions. Please bring the contents of this circular and the attached document to the attention of relevant members.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch
