Dear Colleague,

LACK OF WELFARE PROVISIONS – SALFORD CENTRAL STATION – CARLISLE SUPPORT SERVICES - NORTHERN TRAINS CONTRACT - UPDATE

Further to Head Office Circular NP/116/20, dated 20th May 2020, I am pleased to report that agreement has been reached in respect of the above.

At its meeting on 28th May 2020 your NEC agreed the following resolution:

That we note the report from our Regional Organiser and secretary of the Station & Retail Grades council on file. Furthermore, we note the attached “working together to provide a safe workplace for all” document agreed by both the secretary of the aforementioned council and the company which enables access for Carlisle support services members to Northern booking offices where possible to use facilities during the Covid-19 pandemic. This agreement is to be reviewed once the pandemic is over as to the possibility of it being implemented on a permanent basis.

We further note that at Salford Central there are numerous logistical issues that make providing constant facilities difficult, but that a group of our local level representatives have been working on and making progress to address these issues since December with the company and at this present time no Carlisle Support members are working at the location without access to any facilities as they are being deployed to another location when no Northern staff are present at Salford Central.
This NEC wishes to place on record our thanks to both our Station & Retail council and our local level representatives involved for their ongoing hard work and for any further updates to be placed back before this NEC.

All affected Carlisle Support Services members, affected branches and Regional Councils to be advised.

I am advising those affected as directed; please make the contents of this Circular available to all appropriate members.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
