Dear Colleague,

LEGIONELLA CONTAMINATION, CLASS 700 UNITS – SIEMENS THAMESLINK PROJECT (SIEMANS & GTR THAMESLINK)

I write further to Head Office Circular NP/366/21 dated 30th September 2021, to inform you that your National Executive Committee (NEC) met on 14th October 2021 to consider correspondence from ORR (Office of Rail and Road).  In their correspondence ORR explained that they had conducted a detailed investigation into RMT concerns as regards the legionella risk on Class 700 trains operated by GTR (Govia Thameslink Railway Limited) on the Thameslink Project - and consequently ORR had issued GTR with an Improvement Notice.

The report adopted by the NEC is as follows:

We note the correspondence from the ORR.

We instruct the GS to write to ORR thanking them for their response to our correspondence and to request that ORR keep us informed as to the Company’s reaction to the ORR Improvement notice.

Branches and Regional Councils to be advised accordingly.

I am acting in accordance with this instruction and will keep you advised of developments.

Please bring the contents of this Circular to the attention of relevant members.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch
