Dear Colleague,
LIFEBOATS
Concern is being raised across the maritime sector over a unacceptable stream of accidents and incidents during lifeboat drill’s. Sadly there has been another incident on the MV Arcadia on the 5th January 2018.
The matter has been placed in front of your National Executive committee and they have agreed the following decisions;
“That we note the correspondence on file from the Maritime Coastguard Agency and also Carnival UK in relation to the lifeboat accident on the 5th January 2018 on the MV Arcadia while the vessel was docked in the Azores.
We note that the flag state for the vessel is currently carrying out an independent investigation into the accident and we await the findings of this.
We therefore instruct the General Secretary to write to the Bermudan flag state asking for reassurances that they are also taking the issue of Lifeboat safety as a serious concern and to request a copy of their investigation as soon as it is completed.
Maritime Branches and Regional Councils to be informed”.
I am in the process of carrying out this decision.
Yours sincerely
Mick Cash
General Secretary
