Dear Colleague

LUL – NOISE LEVELS ON THE VICTORIA LINE – ACTION SUSPENDED

Further to Head Office Circular NP/222/24, dated 18th September, your NEC has considered an updated report from your lead officer, noting that LUL is proposing to bring forward urgent rail grinding that was expected to resolve the worst areas for noise on the Victoria line by 25the November 2024. This date will be brought forward.

LUL is also proposing to reduce train operators’ exposure to noise which may be by use of temporary speed restrictions or reduced cab time.

My lead officer has discussed this matter with all three of our trains’ health & safety councils and there is agreement that we should suspend our action short of strike tomorrow and accept the meeting with LUL.

Should an acceptable solution to this problem not be found as a result of the meeting then further action, potentially across all four affected lines should be considered.

At its meeting today, your NEC resolved as follows:

That we note the report from the Lead Officer and that LUL management wish to discuss an agreeable solution to this situation.

Accordingly, we instruct the General Secretary to instruct our members involved in this dispute to work normally until further notice.

Additionally, to obtain an updated report from the Lead Officer on progress made at the upcoming meeting

Branch and affected members to be informed by email and text.

I am therefore instructing members involved in this dispute to work normally until further notice.

Please bring this circular to the attention of all relevant members.

            Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch

General Secretary
