Dear Colleague,
MARITIME HEALTH AND SAFETY REPORT
Following a report to your National Executive Committee (NEC) at its meeting on 13th April 2021, your NEC carried the following resolution:
We note the update on file and commend the efforts of our staff and officers involved in collating the information on our maritime health & safety rep matrix, additionally we note gaps on some vessels and areas where we can actively recruit safety reps to build RMT presence on vessels, offshore installations and other workplaces, accordingly we instruct the General Secretary to liaise with the officers concerned and stress the importance that where gaps appear the lead officers should actively look to recruit health and safety reps to build the RMT at the respective workplaces.
Furthermore the General Secretary is to have lead officers fill in any blanks on the matrix and have an updated report placed before us no later than June Stats and with regular updates throughout the year.
Additionally the General Secretary is to arrange a safety rep recruitment meeting with National Secretary, Assistant National Secretary, lead officers with maritime responsibility, org unit and health and safety department.
I am acting in accordance with these instructions and will keep members informed of any updates.
