Dear Colleague,
MENTAL HEALTH IN A COVID WORLD (1)
Further to head office circular NP/313/21 dated 20th August 2021, a Special meeting of your National Executive (NEC) met on 17th February 2022 to consider a report from its Health and Safety sub-committee, from when it met to discuss correspondence from employers and results from an all-members survey relating to mental health and the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The NEC noted and adopted the following report:
We note the responses from employers on measures they have in place to protect the mental health and wellbeing of RMT members. We also note the survey results, and the comments made by many respondents which show the appalling toll the Covid-19 pandemic has had on the mental health of many RMT front line workers.
We note that the Health and Safety Advisory Committee have already scrutinised this documentation.
We instruct the General Secretary to produce a four-page bulletin based primarily on the survey results and to include in this advice for any members suffering from mental health problems. This bulletin for distribution to branches for display on noticeboards and in communal staff areas.
Branches and Regional Councils to be advised.
I am acting in accordance with these instructions. Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of relevant members.
Yours sincerely
Michael Lynch
General Secretary
