Dear Colleague,

NATIONAL HAZARDS CONFERENCE 2020 - CANCELLATION

Further to Head Office Circular NP50/20, dated 9th March, the Hazards Campaign has sadly announced the cancellation of the 31st National Hazards Conference, which was due to take place at Keele University, Stoke-on-Trent, between 31st July and 2nd August 2020, due to the Covid-19 Coronavirus pandemic.

The Hazards Campaign is exploring different options to continue its work supporting trade unions and safety reps. It will need to make a separate financial appeal in the near future, to enable the organisation to continue over the next 12 months. It works on a shoestring and much of the support is provided on a voluntary basis.

Many trade union branches, regions and national bodies have already provided sponsorship for this year’s conference. As I have previously reported, a number of RMT branches- Cardiff No. 7, Fife & District, Leeds City, Paddington No. 1 (1190), Portsmouth, Sheffield & District, Southall Ealing & Slough, and Wishaw & Motherwell- have sponsored the Hazards Campaign, as has the RMT nationally. The Campaign is politely requesting that the RMT and its branches, defer this sponsorship so that money can be transferred to next year’s conference, Hazards 2021, rather than having to reimburse. If this is not possible for your branch, please email the Campaign directly and it will arrange for the money to be returned.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
