Dear Colleague,
NATIONAL JOINT EVENT FOR ACTION MESOTHELIOMA DAY
I have received a communication via the Hazards Campaign from the Derbyshire Asbestos Support Team, regarding the above event.
Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that begins to grow in the lining of certain organs. Most commonly it affects the lining of the lungs. But it can also affect the lining of the abdomen or the lining of the heart. The main cause of mesothelioma is breathing in asbestos dust. Mesothelioma takes a long time to develop. It is normal for people to get the first symptoms 30 to 40 years after they were first exposed to asbestos. Therefore, people who have symptoms now might have been exposed many years ago.
More information on railway work and mesothelioma can be viewed at:
https://asbestosvictimadvice.com/2016/02/british-rail-workers-still-mesothelioma-victims-of-asbestos-exposure/
The above event is the coming together of various organisations, Asbestos Support Groups including the Asbestos Victims Support Groups Forum, Medical Charities, charities established by mesothelioma patients.
On Friday 2nd July there will be a national event to join by zoom between 12.30 and 13.30. There is a wide range of content on the event’s website, including support from MPs, consultants, nurses, patients’ stories and other engaging and informative content. Please consider supporting the campaign in any way possible, which may be to spread the word about the dangers of asbestos amongst members and colleagues or pledge to support the overall aim of eradication of asbestos and asbestos related disease.
To sign up to the event please go to the website: https://actionmeso.org/amd21/ where you will also find the Action message of support boards for you to download and use on the day

I encourage interested members to join the event.
Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of relevant members.
Yours sincerely
