NETWORK RAIL – CATEGORY 1b RAIL DEFECTS 

 

            Referring to Head Office Circular NP/93/24, dated 9th April, at its meeting on 11^th June 2024, your National Executive Committee (NEC) noted and adopted the following report from its Health and Safety Sub-committee:

 

We note the responses on file from Network Rail and the ORR. We question what Network Rail means by a “competent person” and refute the assertion that there has been an improvement in safety.

 

The General Secretary is instructed to seek a further report from the Lead Officer once our Lead Safety reps have met with the North West & Central Regional Engineer (Permanent Way) and Director of Safety, Matt Dean, for further discussion and/or clarification on the variation. Once received, this matter to be placed back in front of this NEC.

 

Relevant Branches and Regional Councils to be notified.
