Dear Colleague

NETWORK RAIL – DIESEL FUMES INVERNESS SIGNALLING CENTRE

Further to Head Office Circular NP/052/25, dated 19th March 2025, I have received updated reports from Regional Organiser Gordon Martin and National Health and Safety Advisory Committee member Steven Morrow, who, together with RMT’s industrial area council representative Paul Duffy, attended a meeting on 24th March with route director Ross Moran and health and safety director Innis Keith.

There was a full and frank discussion with management where your representatives outlined RMT’s concerns including the slow and inadequate response from management to the workforce concerns including various health and welfare issues.

RMT informed management that if the measures they are currently putting in place fail to properly address these ongoing concerns, then they should decant staff and equipment to an alternative workplace to allow the necessary works to be undertaken which permanently address this problem.

At its meeting on 27th March 2025, your National Executive Committee noted and adopted the following report from its health and safety subcommittee:

We note the correspondence from Bros. Martin and Morrow, for which they are thanked. They are to be commended for their work, and this union will remail vigilant in this matter.

This issue is so serious and concerning that we will consider utilising all the union’s industrial and legal means at our disposal if necessary.

The General Secretary is instructed to provide an updated report within 14 days.

Please bring this circular to the attention of all relevant members.

Yours sincerely,

Eddie Dempsey

General Secretary
