Dear Colleague
NETWORK RAIL – ENERPAC STRESSING KIT - UPDATE
Further to Head Office Circular NP/95/24, dated 4th April 2024, I would like to remind members that, following on from a recent incident in the East Midlands area using Enerpac Stressing Kits, I am advising all Network Rail members to invoke the Worksafe Procedure should they be asked to use this kit prior to any subsequent investigation, as previously Network Rail managers were telling members it was only applicable to the East Midlands area.
The investigation will make recommendations on the safest method of working whilst stressing/destressing, and which equipment is deemed fit for purpose.
Concerns have also been raised in others areas regarding the Enerpac Stressing Kit not being fit for purpose.
Having discussed matters with my RMT National and Route representatives, I am of the view that the control measures that have been suggested to be put in place for the kit by the company do NOT address our concerns. RMT wants a full suspension on using the kit until an investigation has taken place and any subsequent recommendation findings published.
I am therefore notifying the company that RMT is withdrawing its support for the use of this kit.
Please bring this circular to the attention of all relevant members.
Yours sincerely
Michael Lynch
General Secretary
