Dear Colleague
Network Rail – Roles and Responsibilities
Safe Work Leader
Further to Head Office Circular NP/076/15, 29th April 2015 I am writing to advise you of further developments with this case.
Our representatives on the East Midlands Route have met with the company over a number of days and have concluded Area level consultation. At the close of this consultation there were a number of outstanding issues which had not been resolved to RMT’s satisfaction. Our East Midlands representatives attended Unity House and met with the Assistant General Secretary. Following this we raised the outstanding matters with the company at a further meeting on 13th May 2015.
As a result of this meeting we have secured a number of commitments from the company in this regard. Details of those commitments are provided in the attached sheet. The company have also shared with us the latest version of the Standard and other associated paperwork. The relevant paperwork will be made available on the RMT website and can be found at the following link: http://www.rmt.org.uk/about/health-and-safety/safe-work-leader--network-rail/
Further information on PDSW/SWL can be found on the Safety Central Website at:
The company are very explicit in their discussions with the union that should any individual worker or group of workers not feel completely safe with working in the SWL world then they should invoke the company’s worksafe procedure. Any failure to take a permit live should be followed by implementation of the worksafe procedure.
The company are continuing to work towards a Go-Live date in the East Midlands area of Friday 15th May 2015.
Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of relevant members.
Yours sincerely
Mick Cash
General Secretary
