NETWORK RAIL – ROUTING ERRORS

 

I have received a report from the lead officer as regards safety significant incidents reported at a recent meeting RSSB TOM SC (Rail Safety and Standards Board Traffic Operation and Management Standards Committee). Which focused on three incidents involving routing errors which took place this summer. These matters were brought to my attention as they appeared to link to ongoing issues and concerns arising from the impact of Modernising Maintenance. 

 

Given this your NEC (National Executive Committee) met on 6th November 2025 to consider this issue, when they adopted the following report:

 

We note the report from the Lead Officer in relation to recent incidents discussed at RSSB TOM SC caused by routing errors. 

 

We instruct the General Secretary to request that RMT reps from NOC (National Operations Council, NMC (National Maintenance Council and NSC (National Safety Council) reps collect information on similar incidents with they believe to be caused by Modernising Maintenance - so that patterns can be monitored. 

 

I am acting in accordance with these instructions and will keep you advised of developments.
