Dear Colleague

NETWORK RAIL – TRADE UNION SAFETY REP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

As part of the development of the new Procedure Agreement on Health and Safety Network Rail are proposing further training for trade union health and safety representatives over and above the training provide by the TUC. On giving consideration to this proposal the General Grades Committee noted and adopted the following report from their Health and Safety Sub-committee:

We note the proposal on file from the company and the intention to run a “pilot” course. We instruct the General Secretary to provide a report from our representatives on the pilot. The report to be placed back in front of this General Grades Committee. We further instruct the General Secretary to look at providing structured training for our representatives particularly in regards to fair culture and acting as an observer. Training for RMT representatives should be delivered by RMT tutors.

Branches and Regional Councils be advised.

In addition the General Grades Committee also noted that further correspondence had been received from the company and referred the matter back to the Health and Safety Sub-committee for further Examination and Report.

I am acting in accordance with these instructions and will keep you informed of developments with this case.

Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of relevant members.

Yours sincerely
